About EGSOSA

Fifty-six years of old students standing by their school

The Edokpolo Grammar School Old Students Association was formed in 1970 and brings together every set from 1968 to the present, at home and across the diaspora. Motto: Fostering Unity for Development.

Our story

Formed by the 1968 set, two years after they left

EGSOSA was founded in 1970 by the late Prince Macaulay Ayo Kuyoro of the 1968 set — house prefect of College House, laboratory prefect and captain of the school football team — who went on to lead the association for its first forty-two years.

Under Major-General Charles Osa Omoregie (Rtd) from 2012, the association launched the Founder's Day reunion and the biography of the founder, instituted the annual lecture and the Distinguished Edogram Personality Award, and paid for scholarships, examination fees, security and renovation at the school. Between 2023 and 2025 the register grew from 109 to 651 members, the association's standing with the Corporate Affairs Commission was brought fully up to date, and set heads were written into the constitution as a primary organ of EGSOSA.

The association meets monthly, is governed by its constitution and a Board of Trustees, and is led by a National Executive Council elected every two years.

What we do

The work of the association

Welfare of members

Financial and moral support through illness, hospitalisation and bereavement; visits to members in difficult times; celebration of birthdays, marriages, anniversaries and child dedications; increased benefits to the next of kin of deceased members.

Support for the school

Scholarships and WASC/NECO fees for students, security guards, laboratory equipment, toilets, chairs and tables, support for inter-house sports and the Edogram football team, and renovation facilitated with the state government.

Annual lecture and DEPA

The Distinguished Edogram Personality Award, first conferred on 21 December 2013, and the annual lecture that goes with it — a yearly gathering of sets in Benin City.

Governance and the sets

Monthly conferences, published minutes, quarterly financial reports, online banking, and set heads incorporated as a primary organ of the association so every set has a voice.
